Karen of Cove Creek - Handmade Beaded Jewelry Handcrafted and inspired by the Appalachian Mountains Articles catalogue
2007

This jewelry is hand-crafted from a wide-ranging palette of gemstones, including carnelian, jade, lapis, amber, turquoise, amethyst, agate, hematite, coral, smoky quartz, amazonite, citrine, peridot, jasper, obsidian, garnet, black onyx, cherry quartz, tourmaline, mother of pearl, crazy lace agate, and serpentine. This varied collection features faceted gemstones, classic gemstone beads, rugged tumbled gemstones, and gemstone nuggets. Karen also experiments with freshwater pearls in natural tones of peacock, champagne, peach, white, and many dyed colors. Sterling silver or 14K gold fill are the metals used; appropriate and color-coordinated stringing material is chosen: fine silk for pearls; strong jewelers thread or faux sinew for gemstones. Hand-knotting renders each necklace and bracelet supple, elegant, and strong. Every aspect of these designs is carefully considered, right down to the fasteners, usually either a lobster claw clasp, toggle clasp, or a filigree clasp. Designed and constructed to become heirlooms!
